Southeastrans Contracts with Volunteer State Health Plan to Manage Tenncare Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

June 6, 2008, Atlanta, GA – Southeastrans has contracted with Volunteer State Health Plan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, to manage Medicaid non-emergency transportation (NET) for TennCare members enrolled through the managed care company’s BlueCare® and TennCareSelect programs. Southeastrans will be coordinating NET services for BlueCare enrollees in the East and West Regions and for TennCare Select members on a statewide basis. The contract, which begins in September 2008, will initially serve approximately 300,000 TennCare members and is projected to increase to 440,000 members in January 2009.

“We are excited about our business relationship with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and we look forward to working with its MCO in improving the quality and efficiency of transportation services for their TennCare members,” said Steve Adams, president of Southeastrans. Southeastrans will operate a statewide call center in Chattanooga, Tenn., and a regional office in Memphis, Tenn. The contract is expected to require 28 employees in the Tennessee offices.

Southeastrans currently serves over 700,000 Medicaid members in Georgia under contracts for three of the state’s five Medicaid NET Regions. With the addition of the VSHP contract in Tennessee, Southeastrans will provide transportation services to over 1.1 million Medicaid members requiring an estimated 1.8 million medical-related trips per year.
